We are Carlos Plaza Romero and Senka Hodžić (Carlos from Venezuela and living in Costa Rica for 12+ years, and Senka from Bosnia), a.k.a. Imágenes Mentales and Call Me Shadow. We are happy to present our album together “Breathe In.Breathe Out”, released on October 16th, 2022 and was written, recorded and produced from October 2021 until July 2022.

The story of the beginning of our music collaboration is a rather interesting one. It started when we accidentally started talking on Instagram and realized we share similar music tastes and influences. The process started developing after Carlos provided the structured instrumental music outline for what was to become our first joint single, “Blurrin’ the Lines”. Senka then provided the lyrics and vocals.

The process went in a similar way to all the other songs. What began as an idea to collaborate on one song, became an album of 10 songs, and made us realize that our musical connection is perfection for us, something that is very hard to find and, even more, the fact that we are from different countries and cultures. The writing and recording process was pure magic from beginning to end. The entire album is conceptualized as some kind of metaphorical music breath providing a range of moods, genres and personal impressions transformed into various topics.

Desde influencias indie y synthpop hasta ambient, post-grunge y rock alternativo, el álbum evoca la nostalgia musical de los años 80 y 90 a través de los horizontes sonoros contemporáneos. La sensación, el concepto y la textura del álbum son muy cinematográficos, como la banda sonora de una película imaginaria.

Bridging an ocean and seven time zones, we have managed to craft a one-of-a-kind personal as well as geographical music connection between Costa Rica and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and so we proved that miles apart mean nothing when the connection is right. We have put tremendous energy and creativity into this project hoping that people who listen to our music will feel the vibe and will enjoy listening to our album as much as we enjoyed making it.

Our project is a musical blend of Venezuela and Bosnia that has never happened before.

The music and story of this project is something that we feel should and could touch a lot of people. The first single, "Blurrin' the Lines", was on radio and television rotation in Costa Rica, Bosnia and some other European countries. The second single is the song titled “Careless Night”, shaped like a nostalgic ode to the synth sound of the 80s. This song lyrically revolves around two friends spending a big Saturday night on the town. Inspired by the post-punk movement, new wave, synthpop and gothic rock genres of that era. This single was released along with a video clip in October 9, 2022.
